MARTIN ASIGE ALUGA
CHAIRMAN

Martin is a registered graduate engineer, researcher, strategic manager, entrepreneur and change leader who is passionate about using engineering to create positive change for people, organisations and communities. He possesses a master’s degree in civil engineering from Copperbelt University, Zambia and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree at University of Nairobi interested in  Ultrasonic Treatment of Lignocellulosic Bio-Pozzolans to enhance Soil Mechanical and Resilience properties for Road Construction.

Martin realised after working for a few years in Kenya that he had a strong desire to help, as compassion for others is an inspiration for us all. He became a volunteer in Kenya, by founding the Engineers Without Borders Kenya. He strongly believes technology and engineering are crucial in developing solutions to the world’s most pressing social and environmental challenges most importantly to the disadvantaged communities.

EWB Kenya serves a unique and vital role in harnessing and connecting the Kenyan engineering sector with opportunities for development, innovation, entrepreneurship, learning and leadership development. Rare engineers start with tiny steps in the right direction; Extra efforts builds great future engineers; Talk on engineering motivates students to focus; Time out with our young engineers creates balance & bond; our partnership with communities yields sound success. In his spare time, Aluga strives for balance in his life, most particularly honing his juggling skills, pursuing creative interests that are lacking skill but boast plenty of enthusiasm such as free online courses, drawing and remote sensing, and having some good conversation with friends and family. He doesn’t mind challenging himself with a fun run now and then too!

NICHOLAS MUTHAMA KITIVI
SECRETARY

Nicholas is a registered graduate Civil Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) and a change leader who is passionate about using innovation to create positive change for people, organisations and communities.

After completing his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Nairobi, Nicholas began his career as a site engineer in the construction industry and later as an assistant civil engineer in civil engineering consultancy services with Integrated Partnership Consultants ltd (Kenya). Today he has continued to work in the area of civil engineering consultancy handling projects in water supply, civil works, environmental sanitation and irrigation engineering.

As a co-founder of Engineers without Borders – Kenya he devotes his career as a volunteer in Kenya by working with communities to provide solutions that meet basic human needs.

''EWB - KENYA partners with communities and maintain a long-term commitment to them in-order to provide engineering expertise to address community-identified infrastructure needs and realize proven sustainable infrastructure technologies that are appropriate for the particular community. While complying with established project processes we provide continued guidance with operation and maintenance of the facilities developed, provide continued education and training as required and carry out monitoring of the programs. EWB-KENYA shall hold paramount the health, safety and welfare of the public in all aspects of their work''.

JOSEPH MATHENGE NDIRANGU
TREASURER

Joseph graduated from Moi University with a bachelor’s degree in civil & structural engineering and currently pursuing a master’s degree in project management and planning in the same university. He is also registered graduate engineer.

He currently works as an assistant civil engineer in an international consulting civil engineering firm dealing with hydraulics and environmental engineering projects inter alia water resources engineering, irrigation & drainage, water supply & sanitation, dams & appurtenant structures.

As a co-founder of Engineers without Borders – Kenya he devotes his career as a volunteer in Kenya by working with communities to provide solutions that meet basic human needs.

“As EWB-Kenya members & friends will invest our time and energy to meet communities’ basic expectations and assert competitive positions with state-of -art technology. We will deal with lots of interesting and challenging projects which will see us manage to find optimal solutions countless time. What i like most about EWB-Kenya is the interdisciplinary character of tasks mostly touching the complete engineering field, it is always interesting to confront our theoretical approaches with practical experiences and site measurements.”

ESAU MIRIE NYAGUTHI

Esau is a registered graduate engineer, seasoned strategist, entrepreneur, environmentalist and leader who is passionate about using technology & innovation to create positive change for people, organisations and communities as well as preserving the environment.

After working as a Dams & Water Resources Engineer in Kenya for over five years, Esau has contributed, by being a co-founder & volunteer for the Engineers Without Borders Kenya. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in civil engineering at the University of Nairobi.

Esau believes technology and engineering are crucial in developing solutions to the world’s most pressing social and environmental challenges.

Alice Wanjohi

Alice is a registered graduate Mechatronic Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK). She is a determined person with a keen interest in using engineering and technology to solve problems and create positive change for people, organizations and communities.

After completing her bachelor’s degree in Mechatronic Engineering, she worked for a software development company as customer support and front end web designer and later as a Computer Aided Design Engineer in the Mechanical field. Currently she is an engineer in the electrical, electronics and telecommunications sector dealing with power protection and data center infrastructure.
